A delegation of scholars from our university, led by Rector Zhanar Temirbekova, attended a ceremony in Almaty marking the 80th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event brought together heads of government bodies and foreign academies of sciences, members of the Academy, leading Kazakhstani and international scholars, public figures, representatives of the business community, heads of universities and research institutions, international partners, and young researchers.
The 80th anniversary is an important milestone for reviewing the achievements of Kazakhstan’s science and reflecting on its development. Founded in 1946 at the initiative of Kanysh Satbayev, the Academy has played a pivotal role in establishing prominent scientific schools and nurturing several generations of Kazakhstani scholars. While preserving historical continuity, the international anniversary gathering focused on integrating science with emerging technological opportunities and defining the future direction of scientific development in Kazakhstan.
The event was opened by Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, who read a special congratulatory message from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev marking the Academy’s 80th anniversary.
The participants were shown a multimedia presentation highlighting the Academy’s major achievements and the key stages in the development of Kazakhstan’s science. A 3D hologram of Academician Kanysh Satbayev, the first President of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, was also presented.
Academician Murat Zhurinov, one of the founders of our university and a long-serving President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, also attended the event. As part of the anniversary programme, he met with young scholars representing Yassawi University.
President of the National Academy of Sciences, Academician Akylbek Kurishbayev, presented a new framework for organizing scientific activity. He addressed ways to improve the effectiveness of research, strengthen cooperation between science and industry, and introduce scientific innovations into the real sector of the economy. He also outlined objectives related to establishing research priorities, integrating artificial intelligence into research, and enhancing the country’s scientific and technological potential.
Departmental awards of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan were also presented during the event. For the first time, leading scholars who have made significant contributions to the development of Kazakhstan’s science were awarded the Kanysh Satbayev Medal. The ceremony celebrated scientific achievements, recognized the contributions of Kazakhstani scholars, and promoted international academic cooperation.
