Our university hosted a seminar titled “Inclusive Sports Practices: Lessons for Kazakhstan from European Experience,” delivered by Professor Dr. Pelin Aksen, a faculty member at the Faculty of Sports Sciences of Kırıkkale University, Türkiye.

The event brought together academic staff and students from the Faculty of Sports.

The seminar was moderated by Baglan Yermakhanov, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Sports.

During the seminar, participants were introduced to European practices in inclusive sports and education and discussed opportunities for their application in Kazakhstan. Topics included increasing the participation of people with disabilities in physical activity and sports, training coaches and educators, and implementing pilot initiatives to promote inclusive sports.

Pelin Aksen emphasized the importance of adapting these international practices to Kazakhstan’s cultural characteristics, education system and sporting traditions to develop a distinctive model suited to the country’s context.

She also provided practical examples demonstrating how, alongside football, basketball and volleyball, national sports such as asyk atu, togyzqumalaq and Kazakh wrestling could be developed in inclusive formats.

At the conclusion of the seminar, participants exchanged views on developing joint projects, research initiatives and pilot programs in inclusive sports and education between universities in Kazakhstan and Türkiye. They also explored opportunities to extend this cooperation across the Turkic world in the future.
